Azure Reverie
The chlorine scent, usually a sharp sting, was softened by the memory of his cologne. It lingered in the air, a phantom touch on my skin.
We met here, at this nearly empty pool. He'd come to escape the city’s relentless pulse, and I… well, I needed to rediscover the weightless freedom of water after years spent drowning in expectations.
He never spoke much about his past, but I saw shadows flicker across his eyes sometimes, echoes of storms weathered alone. Each shared silence was a fragile offering, each gentle smile a whispered promise of warmth.
Today he didn’t come. Just a text - 'Unexpected work.' A flimsy excuse and one that stung more than it should have. But as the sunlight fractured on the water's surface, turning everything into shimmering sapphire dust, I realized something had shifted within me.
I wasn't waiting for rescue anymore. The pool was beautiful in its stillness; a canvas of azure hope reflecting back at me - and that realization…that felt like enough.
