The wool feels scratchy tonight, doesn’t it? Not an awful scratch, not really - more like a memory, all edges and slight annoyance. Like the one we left behind, seven years ago perhaps? Or was it eight? Doesn’t matter much, does it? The important thing is he looks... hesitant. That’s good, isn’t it? A little hesitation after all these years. It shouldn’t be too much to ask for, should it?

He hasn’t said anything yet, of course. Just standing there with those eyes—a bit blurry around the edges now, certainly, less silver than they used to be. Still a hint of recognition, though. That’s why he agreed to come, didn't he? To the farm, amongst the honeysuckle and the memories - almost forgot about the bees buzzing lazily by the window earlier. Such simple things, weren't they? Everything so easily taken for granted.

This dress... my favorite, really. Dark blue velvet, which always felt appropriate – dark moods, deep thinking, perfect for keeping ourselves contained then. And now. We were perfectly content, weren’, we thought. Certainly never broke each other's hearts entirely, just kept drifting apart slowly enough that no one noticed until it was nearly too late.

Your gaze has been steady, if a little wary. As if youre wondering what wee* did wrong. Maybe it wasn't our fault. Perhaps it simply drifted away. Well, look closer. See the trace of acceptance in the curve of your lip when you smiled last time?

Now, don’t stand there staring. You’ve got a face to turn, don’t you? Come a little closer. Let us finally decide whether to hold onto this quietness, or risk letting the feeling through."
